Project Assistant (m/f/d) (16-20h/week) in the field of climate diplomacy and security (part-time)

Our Berlin office is seeking a Project Assistants to support our team for a period of 10-12 months (with the possibility of extension), starting summer 2025. 

Project Assistant (m/f/d) (16-20h/week) in the field of climate diplomacy and security (part-time)

Your scope of responsibilities:

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges for the 21st century, including the risks it entails for peace and international security. adelphi has been working on climate-fragility risks for many years, in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office and many other ministries, governments and international organizations. We are looking for creative and dynamic personalities who want to help shape political processes in this domain at the national and international level.

As Project Assistant, you will support our team in various areas, ranging from designing international dialogues to building agenda setting narratives. 

Your tasks at adelphi:

  • Support with the planning, coordination and implementation of the annual Berlin Climate and Security Conference hosted in partnership with the German Federal Foreign Office, including supporting with participant management, preparation of materials like speaker briefings and PowerPoints and updating the conference website
  • Contribute to research, writing, and editing for text templates, policy papers, factsheets and studies on climate diplomacy
  • Support in content-driven communications work for flagship projects like Weathering Risk
  • Prepare and follow up on events and support the implementation of dialogues with UN and EU policy makers as well as German, European and international civil society and research institutions
  • Prepare and revise project results in text and graphics for public sector clients, diplomats and partner institutions
  • Ad hoc administrative support tasks as required 

Your qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Masters programmme in politics, communication, or similar and related fields
  • Experience in event management and strong organizational skills
  • Strong visual skills and an eye for detail
  • Ability to communicate research and analysis findings in ways that are accessible for policy makers and non-expert audiences
  • Familiarity with topics related to environment, climate, peace and security and/or first experiences working in relevant fields
  • Excellent knowledge of English or native skills; Near native skills in German is an advantage
  • Excellent research, writing and editing skills
  • Structured, precise, independent and flexible approach to work
  • Good command of Office applications, particularly MS Word and Outlook
  • Foundational skills to extract, transform and visualize data in R and eagerness to develop these skills further is an advantage for some projects
  • Good command of Canva, Photoshop and/or InDesign, as well as web-based software/content management systems is an asset
