Possible Now #ShiftThePower Global Summit
The Summit will bring together changemakers, experimenters, bridge-builders and trailblazers from around the world: people working across community philanthropy, civil society, social movements, research, funding and beyond.
Possible Now emerged out of the 2023 #ShiftThePower Global Summit in Colombia. The Bogotá event brought together over 700 people from all over the world and mostly from the edges of the dominant international funding system.
While global conferences can serve to re-ignite energy, connect community and offer validation and solidarity, they are not enough on their own to fundamentally shift old systems or build new ones.
In a context of multiple, vibrant, creative but often isolated innovations and emergent practices, what would it take to build a common grammar and an expanded sense of community across geographies and silos? What kind of alternative civic infrastructure would be needed to facilitate new flows of multiple kinds of resources and knowledge in distributed and horizontal ways around the world? How could such an emergent ecosystem help strengthen collective intelligence and sensemaking and the building of new discourse, with those closest to the work re-cast not as “implementors” but rather as “makers” of the new system? What would it take to shift mental models, so that experiments and innovations that have emerged through the cracks of the dominant system are not dismissed as small and one-off, but as part of a larger system of new practices patterns and signals that, when seen together, point in a new direction altogether?
As with previous #ShiftThePower events, the Possible Now Summit will not be organized around expert presentations and plenary panels. Instead, it will be a space for people who sense that something fundamental is shifting and want to help make sense of this moment collectively.
To connect with others wrestling with similar challenges in different contexts, to identify patterns across seemingly unrelated experiments, and to chart new pathways for action – all against a backdrop of complexity and intersecting crises. The agenda will be shaped by conversations emerging from different spaces and processes, with the goal of building coherence and charting ways forward which can be sustained and deepened after the Summit and finding new footholds too.
