Assistance in the field of integrated management of river-sea systems

This project consists of transfer of expertise activities regarding the efficient management of the coastal zones, problems of spatial planning and hazard management in the marine/coastal environment and possibilities to reduce and prevent coastal erosion.

Pacific Ocean beach turtles preservation area, Ecuador, June 2022.

The transfer of expertise is carried out in Romania and Ecuador by experts from the Romanian National Institute of Marine Geology and Geoecology - GeoEcoMar and from ESPOL University and Charles Darwin Foundation of the Republic of Ecuador.

In addition to working meetings between experts, the 2023 edition of the project includes a research internship for 2 Ecuadorian PhD students in Romania in theoretical and practical activities carried out by GeoEcoMar researchers.

The main goal of the project is to share experience between Romanian and Ecuadorian experts regarding the efficient management of the costal zones, in order to find solutions to the problems of spatial planning and hazard management in the marine/coastal environment and to reduce and prevent coastal erosion. The project contributes to climate change mitigation and adaptation, in particular with regard to coastal erosion and coastal management, through the selection of smart protection plans that prevent the effects of erosion without a major negative role on coastal biodiversity. The total amount of assistance foreseen during the period 2022 - 2023 is almost 44,000 euros.
