His work bridges scientific research and policy, addressing the complex interconnections between water, energy, and food security in fragile contexts.

Dr. Mayar previously served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) in Germany, where he investigated the dynamic interplay of water, energy, and food security in Central Asia. He also held a faculty position at Kabul Polytechnic University, lecturing in the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering.

He earned his doctoral degree in water resource management from the University of Stuttgart in Germany, a master’s degree in environmental systems from the Nagaoka University of Technology in Japan, and a bachelor's degree in water resource engineering from Kabul Polytechnic University in Afghanistan.

Dr. Mayar’s research spans multiple disciplines, including the water-energy-food nexus, transboundary water governance, climate change adaptation, and environmental security in conflict-affected regions. His technical expertise includes remote sensing, spatio-temporal analysis using Geographic Information Systems, flood and drought risk modeling, and natural hazard assessment.

Beyond academia, Dr. Mayar actively contributes to policy discussions, producing actionable research and policy briefs on climate security, resource management, and sustainable development in Afghanistan. His work aims to bridge scientific insights with practical solutions to address pressing environmental and security challenges in the region.
