Josephine Collier

Josephine Collier is an Analyst in the Diplomacy and Security Programme. With a background in diplomacy, she is particularly interested in supporting multilateral cooperation and action whilst promoting locally-driven approaches. She has experience in developing trainings on climate, peace and security in Central and West Africa. Her topical interests also extend to the environmental peacebuilding and the interlinkages between environmental crime and climate, peace and security.

Conflict over Land Use in Colombia

For over 60 years, Colombia's armed conflict has been rooted in political struggle and disputes over natural resource exploitation. Land access and distribution, deforestation, coca cultivation, illegal mining and climate vulnerabilities drive ongoing violence. Recent governments have shifted approaches—from implementing peace agreements to military force to recognising environmental protection as essential to peacebuilding. Community-led initiatives now offer critical lessons for advancing peace and sustainability.
