Powering peace through climate action
This innovative project is testing how climate adaptation can be mobilised as a possible entry point to bring groups of people, who are in conflict with each other, together. It encourages joint analysis of climate and conflict issues by different and divided groups and supports them in developing shared Local Peace and Adaptation Plans. It also unpacks how climate adaptation policies and action can become more sustainable through inclusive and conflict sensitive approaches by building local government knowledge on climate and conflict risks and bringing government actors together with marginalised communities to encourage inclusivity and collaboration in order to inform climate actions.
The expected outcome of the project is that marginalised communities in the two regions have increased awareness, agency, trust and cooperation to enable work on climate change impacts to take place. It also fosters engagement between marginalised communities and local government, in order to build conflict-sensitive climate policies and plans. This project will also contribute to an evidence base for the necessity of conflict sensitive, peace-conducive climate adaptation policies and action needed by international climate policy, funding and civil society actors.
