Waste traffic: Evolution of the global market and its effects on waste streams

The goal of the project is to identify new emerging trends in G7 countries and to define the measures that need to be taken to combat the illicit trafficking of waste.

Waste traffic: Evolution of the global market and its effects on waste streams

A standardised questionnaire was administered to all G7 countries in order to analyse the data necessary to outline awareness regarding the global situation and phenomenon in question and further outline an intelligence picture. The questionnaire was recently supplemented with an additional question about the possibility that Ukraine, in the post-conflict phrase, could be considered a destination for illicit waste trafficking.

Tackling environmental crimes requires adequate investigative skills, knowledge of the general context at both the national and transnational levels and adequate skills to address the means and potential of possible perpetrators. To this end, the competent national authorities should invest in the professional training of their investigators, to enable them to carry out coordinated and successful actions in various fields.
