Rachele Semeghini

Rachele Semeghini is a Project Assistant at the Climate Diplomacy and Security program, working on projects at the intersection of climate change, security and diplomacy. Previously, also at adelphi, Rachele worked on projects on habitability and climate- and disaster-induced migration and displacement. She is a Master’s student of International Security, where she focuses on the Climate, Peace and Security nexus, and the growing potential of environmental peacebuilding in vulnerable countries. She is interested in investigating how climate change, environmental degradation and resource depletion exacerbate conflicts in fragile countries but also how they can represent an opportunity to strive for a more sustainable and inclusive peace.

70 percent of climate vulnerable countries are the most fragile. This should mean that these countries are prioritised by climate finance. Yet, the reality is the opposite. Access to climate finance for fragile and conflict countries is often hindered by structural, technical and institutional barriers. Overcoming these challenges is vital for sustainable peace.
