Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2026

29 - 30 June 2026
Hamburg, Germany

The Hamburg Security Conference is an annual conference that is driven by the vision that reaching the SDGs requires interdisciplinary and trustful collaboration among the international community.

The third Hamburg Sustainability Conference will take place from June 29 – 30, 2026 in Hamburg, Germany.

The conference aims to foster new partnerships and collective action of those who are willing to commit to action: global policymakers, private sector leaders, academia experts, and civil society representatives. Multilateral alliances will advocate for scalable projects and progressive policies. Open dialogues will lead to decisions that turn into concrete actions with measurable results.

The annual conference is a joint initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the Michael Otto Foundation.

Main Themes of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2026

HSC 2026 will revolve around the following thematic pillars: Resilient Economies, Technology and the Future of Our Planet; Risk, Uncertainty and Conflict; and Ensuring the Future of Human Collaboration: Multilateralism and Governance. By addressing the key challenges and opportunities at the intersection of economic resilience, technological innovation, and global governance, the HSC strives to offer an aspirational vision of sustainability that ensures human and planetary wellbeing, firmly grounded in co-operation, multilateralism, and investment in global goods.

Resilient Economies, Technology and the Future of Our Planet

Building economies and societies that acknowledge the strong synergies between economic and financial systems, climate and biodiversity, and rapid technological advancement—including digitalisation and artificial intelligence—to create the conditions where everyone can thrive.

Risk, Uncertainty and Conflict

Every country is exposed to multiple shocks and converging structural transitions that demonstrate the complex risks and fragility of our systems. These threaten to overwhelm societies and reverse development gains. Raising awareness and managing risks effectively are crucial for building resilience and creating sustainable societies and economies.

Ensuring the Future of Human Collaboration: Multilateralism and Governance

Major global shifts require renewed investment in multilateralism and international cooperation. The HSC advocates for inclusive and effective governance structures that enhance, promote, and protect the value of human collaboration.
