The new report “The Role of Natural Resources in Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration - Addressing Risks and Seizing Opportunities” by UNEP and UNDP builds on field interviews from several African countries and Indonesia as well as on comprehensive desk studies of experiences from other parts of the world. It argues that more attention should be paid to natural resources during peace-building efforts. These resources are both interconnected with the conflicts and essential for securing livelihood in the conflict aftermath. Reintegration of ex-combatants is therefore one of the central issues of the publication.
