Regional Conflict Prevention for Climate Insecurity in the Pacific

1 November 2022
Online

On 1 November, 2022, adelphi, the Center for Policy Research at the United Nations University Geneva Office and the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform will host a virtual innovative discussion during Geneva Peace Week exploring regional approaches to climate insecurity in the Pacific.

1 November 2022, 10:30 - 11:45 CET

The Pacific region remains one of the most at-risk to climate insecurity but are also at the forefront in thinking about how to combat it. Their regional approach to safeguarding regional security from the threats of climate change is one of the many innovative approaches currently undertaken. How can other actors, also shifting towards regional prevention approaches, such as the UN, support them?

Our moderated and interactive discussion will seek to provide policy makers and practitioners an understanding of Pacific specific regional climate security risks, regional approaches to them, and how the UN can support through their own regional prevention approaches. The session is informed by adelphi’s work in the Pacific, using the Weathering Risk methodology, and a United Nations University study on the UN’s regional prevention work.
