Pacific Climate Security Risk Assessment Guide and Atoll-Country Profiles

Pacific Island Countries have long identified climate change as a security threat, enshrining their position in the 2018 Boe Declaration on Regional Security and their commitment to address it in the 2019 Action Plan. In support of this, adelphi collaborated with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Fiji, International Organization for Migration (IOM) and regional actors to develop a climate security assessment guide to help countries clearly articulate, identify and prioritize climate security risks and the responses to combat them.
 

Putting the Guide to action, adelphi and partners produced three country profiles for the most at-risk countries in the region: Tuvalu, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Kiribati. The profiles aim to improve the understanding of national climate-related security risks and to guide national, regional, and international partners in their efforts to respond to climate-related security challenges there. These profiles will be finalized in the coming months but in the interim, high-level summaries have been produced and are accessible on our website.

The Climate Security Risk Assessment Profiles were commissioned by the UNDP-IOM Climate Security in the Pacific project, in close collaboration with the Governments of the three countries, and funded by the UN Peace Building Fund.
