The Shar/Šara Mountains and Korab Massif Area is a biodiversity hotspot with outstanding natural value. Natural resources in the area provide economic opportunities for local communities, and are therefore important for safeguarding rural livelihood security and well-being. Climate change poses a threat to the natural and economic values of the area. Combined with unsustainable and illegal human activities, the impacts of climate change threaten the area’s rich biodiversity and key economic sectors. This document proposes a joint co-operation strategy to strengthen co-operation between the four protected areas (1) Korab-Koritnik, (2) Mavrovo, (3) Shar Mountain, and (4) Sharri/Šara to address climate-related security risks.
