Rethinking vulnerability and resilience in island nations | BCSC 2025

Drawing lessons from the Pacific, African island states, and South Asia, speakers outlined how digital early warning systems, financial risk transfer, and governance frameworks work best when rooted in identity and lived realities, and set out practical steps for governments, donors, and tech partners to integrate local identity into adaptation, deploy trusted innovations, and bridge institutional gaps.

The seventh edition of the Berlin Climate and Security Conference (BCSC) explored climate, conflict, and cooperation in a turbulent era. Better coordination and innovative collaborations are needed more than ever. Through taking stock of leading practice and convening figures from government, implementation organisations, and research, it advanced actionable climate security solutions amid growing instability.
